Chart

James' Top 70 - November 10, 2016

SafetySuit storm the chart like Normandy this week and cause some heavy havoc. They are charting their entire new album consisting of 14 tracks, only becoming the second act in history to accomplish this (Cam's Untamed being the first). They score 3 debuts in the Top 10, to go along with "Pause" entering the Top 5. With all the debuts, many songs have been shot down. Some should rebound, some may not. This will be one wild rest of the year.

Notes:

  • In a topsy-turvey week, Captain Cuts are able to hold onto the top spot with "Love Like We Used To" stretching its #1 lead to four weeks now. Next week should pose a threat with four SafetySuit songs potentially looking to go #1.
  • SafetySuit has four songs in the Top 10 this week, as "Pause" rises 9-4 for a new peak, and "Numbers or Faith", "Beat of Your Heart", and "Better" debut at #6, #8, and #10 respectively. The latter three are looking to be the catalysts of the album and should stick around for awhile. I might be forced to pick singles from the album and these are easily the first three up to bat. All four of the songs in the Top 10 will look to go #1 next week, so next week could be another big week for SafetySuit.
  • In more towards the middle of the chart, "You" (#30), "Holding On" (#41), "Ordinary Girl" (#42), and "Confused" (#48) take their debuts this week and look like they could stick around for awhile. "You" definitely should turn into a good hit for them, while the latter three will chart while the album is still hot. Pretty much all the songs on the album are going to have some weird chart runs after the album simmers down.
  • "This City" and "Wherever You Go" rank in the 50s this week at #53 and #57 respectively. These two likely won't last terribly wrong and might be on their way out in a few weeks, but they do have potential to grow.
  • "On Your Side" takes a re-entry this week with the new release at #54. If anyone remembers, this debuted all the way back in 2013 as the lead single from the album at #2 and hit #1 for two weeks in the first quarter of 2014. It fell off the chart after 27 weeks. Obviously this will not re-peak, but it could last a few weeks. It might fall off quicker than "This City" and "Wherever You Go" though considering its history.
  • As Adelitas Way did when OneRepublic released Oh My My, Marshmello and Wrabel debut this week in the midst of SafetySuit chaos with "Ritual" debuting at #63. This is Marshmello's first chart entry and Wrabel's third. This one could be a hit for both acts, as I could see this peaking somewhere in the Top 20.
  • The last two debuts from SafetySuit's self-titled album are "F2B" and "Prelude 113" at #66 and #70 respectively. They both serve as the outro and intro of the album. "F2B" is a near five minute song, but only about a minute and a half of actual song (the end is waves crashing and whatnot), while "Prelude 113" is an instrumental that leads into "You". I'm pretty sure "Prelude 113" is the first instrumental to chart on the chart. Look at SafetySuit breaking more records!
  • Don't let On the Rise and the Recurrent Watch scare you, next week should see the chart normalize after the chaos. Weirdly enough though, the songs that dropped out this week likely won't return with the exception of "Chase You Down".
