Big week for Noah Kahan and Megan Thee Stallion

It is his season! Noah Kahan leads the Top 40 for a fourth consecutive week, occupying the entire Top 2. “Stick Season” comes out on top again, supported by big streaming figures. The single has enjoyed a successful chart run already with seventeen weeks in the Top 40 and counting. It has also received a platinum certification. “Homesick” joins the race towards Number 1, but settles for second place this week. The featured indie-darling Sam Fender earns his third Top 2-hit on my personal chart to date. If the single were to replace Kahan’s own “Stick Season”, “Homesick” would quietly become Fender his fifth chart-topper here.

While “Stick Season” is still in full gear, further down, Noah Kahan earns another Top 40-hit taken from his third studio album of the same name. It’s “Dial Drunk”, the album its third single which was originally released in July last year. The song is about a man who is arrested and needs to call his ex to bail him out. A hurtful yet upbeat song, “Dial Drunk” was well received upon release and was remixed to feature Post Malone. It is the latest pop hit for the American rapper, joining the likes of “Chemical”. With the new hit debuting at #20, Noah Kahan earns his fourth Top 40-hit. The featured Post Malone earns his sixteenth.

Dutch indie darling Froukje enters the Top 10 with her latest single “Kwijt”. In the past few years, she has grown into one of the Netherlands’ most acclaimed artists. Last month, Froukje finally released her much anticipated debut Noodzakelijk Verdriet. It spawned multiple Top 10-hits, further extending Froukje her string of hit singles. It already topped the Dutch album charts for two consecutive weeks and has been a streaming success. “Kwijt” reaches an all new peak at #10, earning Froukje her sixth Top 10-entry on my personal list.

Meanwhile, the rap queens are beefing. Megan Thee Stallion released “Hiss” this week, an upfront hip hop track in which Megan calls out all those who crossed her. Stan Twitter spotted hits aimed at Nicki Minaj, as Megan seemingly called out Minaj her husband Kenneth Petty. The single also appear to be directed towards Drake, Tory Lanez and Megan’s ex Pardison Fontaine. It did not take long for Minaj to respond, releasing the diss track “Big Foot” in less than two days. The single has been called out by online critics and fans for being tasteless, as Minaj poorly references the 2020 shooting of Megan by Tory Lanez. It’s clear to see who the winner is. On my personal list, “Hiss” earns the highest debut of the week at #14. It marks Megan her eighth Top 40-hit.

Further down, another Megan Thee Stallion song debuts this week: “Not My Fault”, led by newcomer Reneé Rapp. The song is included in the new Mean Girls musical film, in which Reneé plays Regina George. The up-tempo disco track debuts at #31, earning Reneé her first Top 40-entry. Drake debuts at #34 with “Rich Baby Daddy” featuring Sexxy Red and SZA. It’s the second time Drake and SZA team up, as they previously collaborated on “Slime You Out”. Speaking of familiar team-ups – Bilal Wahib and Zoë Tauran round out the new entries at #39 with “Verpest”. They previously collaborated on the Top 40-hits “Solo” and “Outside”.
