Marco Borsato and Trijntje Oosterhuis secure a second week above the list with Wereld Zonder Jou. The song is a big success in the Netherlands, reaching Number 3 on the Dutch Top 40. The duet is noted for being Trijntje Oosterhuis her breakthrough-hit as a soloist. The Dutch duo faces strong competition from another Dutch group, being Guus Meeuwis & Vagant with their single Ik Tel Tot 3. If Guus Meeuwis & Vagant were to overtake Marco Borsato and Trijntje Oosterhuis next week, it would become their third Number 1-hit on this list.
Lisa Stansfield scores her first Top 10-entry with The Real Thing. The R&B-banger is her first big success on this list. Lisa Stansfield started her career with the chart-topping hit All Around the World in 1989. More successes followed, including a best-selling album with “Affection”. Her newest single The Real Thing peaks at Number 9 this week.
Gary Barlow scores his third Top 10-entry with So Help Me Girl. The song is his third single taken from his debut solo album “Open Road”. The English songwriter previously scored two Top 10-hits with Forever Love and Love Won’t Wait. Gary Barlow was a member of the highly popular boy group Take That, with whom he scored four additional Top 10-hits including the Number 1-hits Back For Good and How Deep Is Your Life. His newest single peaks at Number 10 this week.
The Spice Girls have already left a lasting legacy in the music industry. Their hits are amongst the best-selling singles of the 90s and their album “Spice” is shattering records worldwide. It is not strange that other countries would like some Spice on their own. The Netherlands try to make their own Spice Girls with WOW!, the newest girl group. Music producers Rob and Ferdi Bolland placed an advertisement in the Dutch magazine ‘Hitkrant!’, looking for five girls to form a girl group. More than 250 girls replied and auditioned. In the end, Naomi Louwerens, Mandy Gruijters, Denise Koopal, Joëlle van Noppen en Jenske Moermond formed the final line-up.
WOW! scores the highest debut of the week. The girls enter with the undeniably catchy Keer Op Keer (Loop Maar Naar De Maan). The song is noted for its cross-over with Eurodance and R&B. The single was highly promoted on Dutch television and Dutch magazines. It has worked, as WOW! is becoming a nationwide success. Keer Op Keer (Loop Maar Naar De Maan) debut at Number 17 this week.
