The Spice Girls celebrate a seventh consecutive week above the list with Viva Forever. This week has become the girls’ fifty-second week spent at Number 1, also counting previous hit singles such as Spice Up Your Life. This means the Spice Girls have spent a whopping year leading the charts. In total, the girls have collected nine Number 1-hits, starting with Wannabe in August 1996. Their most recent chart-topper will be the last single to feature Geri Halliwell, as she left the band on the 31st of May.
Additionally, the Spice Girls’ Viva Forever receives a Platinum Certification. The single has made over 65,000 points. This continues the girls’ record of having every single to be at least certified Platinum. All the other even managed to be at least certified 2 x Platinum. We will have to wait and see if Viva Forever manage to achieve a 2 x Platinum Status as well. This week, the hit single fights off competition from B*Witched and Madonna.
Robbie Williams scores the highest debut of the week, entering within the Top 10. The English singer has already had an amazingly successful year. Robbie Williams opened the year with the Top 10-hit Angels, which went on to amass over 65,000 points. He then scored a chart-topper with Let Me Entertain You, which spent one week at Number 1. The additional album “Life Thru a Lens” also was a phenomenal success, becoming a million-seller in the United Kingdom. In total, Robbie Williams has scored two Number 1s, his first being Freedom, and five Top 10-hits. As a member of Take That, Robbie Williams scored one Number 1-hit with Back For Good.
Robbie Williams now starts a new era as Millennium debuts at Number 9. The single serves as the lead single of his upcoming album “I’ve Been Expecting You”. The song is based around a sample of You Only Live Twice by Nancy Sinatra, which peaked at Number 20 on this list. Nancy Sinatra her song served as the title track of the 1967 James Bond film, which is said to be one of Robbie Williams' favorite films. Millennium is met with high success, debuting at Number 1 in the United Kingdom. More success could follow, as its popularity keeps on growing.
Although B*Witched misses the top spot this week, it still receives a Gold Certification for C’est La Vie. The hit single is becoming an international success, having already peaked above the charts in the UK. On this list, the single has spent three consecutive weeks at Number 2 behind Viva Forever by the Spice Girls. The single is becoming one of the biggest Irish singles on this list, whilst it is also one of the biggest hits of the year. As of this week, the song has amassed over 40,000 points.
