James' Top 40 - September 23, 2015

Notes:

  • "First" stays on the throne for a sixth week. The Top 5 stays the same again, but "A Taste of Silver" moves 3-2, while Cold War Kids' counterpart "Thunderhearts" falls 2-3. Top 5 should stay the same yet again next week, but there could be some movement.
  • Foals climb into the Top 10 with "Mountain At My Gates", as it goes 15-9 for a new peak. This will definitely not take another huge climb next week, but this should stick in the Top 10 for a little while. Right now, a peak of #7 seems like all it can get for now.
  • The top debut belongs to Common Kings, as they launch "Ain't No Stopping" to #20. This almost debuted last week, but I held it out to get a full week in, as it only had two days going for it. With a full week plus more under its belt, it paid dividends. This could actually climb into the Top 10 next week, and this could be the song that breaks apart the Top 5 soon.
  • Robin Thicke is just looking bleaker each week. "Morning Sun" falls off the chart from #32, after skyfalling for a few weeks, and now "Back Together" is looking to follow suit as it falls 22-28. Both songs were fast climbers and both looked like they could have really good chart runs and peaks, but both just hit a wall. Once "Back Together" released, "Morning Sun" started to fall. And now "Back Together" is just falling. Next week it should fall into the lower tier of the chart, and then fall off the week after.
  • "Criminals" climbs into the Top 30 this week, as it goes 34-30 for a new peak. This has had some healthy climbs so far, this week was slightly aided by Digital Vein being released. Next week it should take a big climb again with even more aid, and David could actually be looking at two more debuts in "Better Than Me" and "I'm Gonna Love You".
  • All of last week's debuts stay the same or fall down. Next week won't be any easier as it looks like there should be a few more debuts.
  • "Cake By The Ocean" debuts at #34 this week. While this is DNCE's first chart entry (well it is their debut single), frontman Joe Jonas isn't a stranger to the chart. He charted a few years ago with "See No More", which hit #6 back then. This could be a big one.
  • Zac Brown Band reenter the chart with "Beautiful Drug" coming in at #37. It spent two short weeks back when Jekyll + Hyde was released and peaked at #31. This should easily beat that peak and become a decent charter on here. They also see "Junkyard" on the Re-Entry Watch yet again this week. It's been on there a few times, but it's never had enough to rechart.
